PATCHOGUE, NY (07/28/2008)(readMedia)-- Mr. Pickens:
My name is Lee Zeldin and in my capacity as a candidate for Congress, an admirer of your work and as someone who shares your independent spirit of venture capitalism, I am writing to express my support.
After serving in the Army as a JAG, I announced my candidacy for New York's First Congressional District-which encompasses Eastern Long Island-last year. I'm running against an incumbent with a distinct lack of fresh ideas and independent leadership, as he votes along his party's liberal agenda an astounding 99 percent of the time.
Since announcing my candidacy, time and again I have demonstrated my own independence, recognizing and embracing worthwhile endeavors that better my community.
That's why I'm excited about the sheer energy surrounding the Pickens Plan and was energized by your testimony on the Hill last week. I'm on board with this common-sense approach to energy as a matter of national security, and when elected, you can count on my support.
My opponent has spent so much time blaming others for shortcomings that he hasn't had the time to lower gasoline prices or reduce our nation's reliance on foreign oil.
Recognizing that we need to address future energy needs, my vision for America dovetails with the Pickens Plan in calling for a commitment to developing clean energy alternatives, committing to support initiatives focused on alternative sources like wind power.
I see the need for strong leadership to harness creativity and get us back on track.
That said, thank you for taking the lead. You are to be commended for standing up and sharing your vision.
God Bless America,
Lee M. Zeldin
