BURLINGTON, VT (10/19/2017) The opening reception for artist Viktoria Strecker's "Inversion" exhibition at the Champlain College Art Gallery will be held Thursday, October 26 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Strecker, a Germany-based artist, is working in residence at the College's gallery creating a site-specific installation of intricately constructed sculptural forms and drawings. The show will run through November 4.

Before beginning her residency the artist traveled cross country from Las Vegas to Vermont, documenting through photography and drawings, her findings along the way. "I have been doing some elements with the 3D- pen in silver and in transparent materials. The transparent forms, illuminated onto the walls will throw shapes and 'drawings' on the gallery walls."

In addition to the main installation, Strecker says there will be a book and also drawings: scratchings into silver and drawings with ink and ballpoint pen on paper. A universal structure that lies behind all of the landscapes seen on the trip.

"In the book there will be some photos of landscapes (especially the contrast of the White salt-flats we visited and the black lava-stone area from craters of the moon), some brief stories from people I met, and some lyrical texts from different authors, which will underline the photos of my installations," the artist explains.

The Champlain College Art Gallery, located in the Center for Communication and Creative Media, is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is free and open to the public. For more information about upcoming shows and events, visit http://artgallery.champlain.edu/
