SAVANNAH, GA (09/04/2013)(readMedia)-- Owosso High School graduate, University of Michigan undergraduate, and Savannah College of Art and Design historic preservation graduate student Sophie Reich has been named an Association for Preservation Technology International Scholar for 2013.

APT is one of the leading resources on preservation technology throughout North America and Reich's abstract, "Rust-oration: Preserving the Significance of Deindustrialization and Decay in Rust Belt Cities" was selected for its level of illustrated research and the conceptual excellence presented.

All student scholars are granted registration to the annual APT Conference in New York City, hotel and travel expenses and have access to extensive networking opportunities with industry experts and professionals.

"This honor is important because it provides a platform to present the work I completed at SCAD to a larger audience as well as to make meaningful connections with colleagues at the beginning of my career," Reich said.

The Association for Preservation Technology International, APT, is a cross-disciplinary organization dedicated to promoting the best technology for conserving historic structures and their settings. APT members hail from more than 30 countries and include preservationists, architects, engineers, conservators, students, technicians and other persons directly involved in the applications of methods and materials to maintain, conserve and protect historic structures and sites for future use and appreciation.
