PRESS CONF CALL: Common Cause/NY, CO, and CA Explain Obstacles/Advantages of Vote by Mail Amid COVID-19

CC/NY issues recommendations specific to New York + moving primaries to June

NEW YORK, NY (03/24/2020) (readMedia)-- Common Cause New York, Colorado Common Cause, and California Common Cause will join together on a press conference call to discuss how elections can proceed in New York State amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Many lawmakers, both nationally and locally, have been floating the idea of vote by mail: when all active registered voters automatically receive a ballot in the mail and can choose to vote by mail if desired. Colorado has a vote by mail system in place while some California counties have vote by mail and others have permanent absentee, which means voters can request to have their ballots mailed to them for every election.

Common Cause/NY will also be releasing a white paper called New York's Democracy Doesn't Pause: How Our Elections Can Proceed during a Pandemic which lays out recommendations on how New York can run upcoming elections by expanding absentee voting.
