NEW STANTON, PA (09/21/2011)(readMedia)-- The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission will be closing the Turnpike westbound between the New Stanton (Exit 75) and Irwin (Exit 67) exits starting at 12:01 a.m. through 3:30 a.m. on Sun., Sept. 25, weather permitting. The closure is needed to set an overhead sign structure at Milepost 68, which is east of the Irwin Exit, as part of the ongoing total reconstruction and widening of the 8-mile stretch of Turnpike mainline in that area.
In addition to the westbound closure, eastbound motorist will encounter a single lane pattern between mileposts 66.4 to 67.5.
Westbound drivers will be advised to exit at New Stanton (Exit #75) take Route 119 North to Toll 66 North to Exit #6 - Route 30 West and reenter the Turnpike at Irwin (Exit #67).
Expect higher traffic volumes on detour roads during the closure.
Alternate-route cards will be available to exiting travelers at the New Stanton Interchange during the closure. Message boards will be placed to inform customers of the closure and lane restriction, and Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) broadcasts at station 1640 AM also are being used to inform travelers.
