WALLA WALLA, WA (03/06/2012)(readMedia)-- Madelyn Peterson of Palmer recently presented her research at a press conference at Whitman College on Thursday, Feb. 16.
Peterson was one of fifteen students participating in a research course at Whitman College called "The State of the State for Washington Latinos." Students in this course conducted academic and community-based research in one of five different areas related to the relationship between Walla Walla Latinos and their surrounding community.
Her project, entitled "Secure Communities Research Project with OneAmerica," looked into the effects Secure Communities had on the relationship between Latinos and local law enforcement.
Peterson, the daughter of Marc and Virginia Peterson, is a 2009 graduate of Palmer High School. She is currently a junior environmental studies and politics major at Whitman.
