ITHACA, NY (04/12/2012)(readMedia)-- Alyssa Kim of Paramus, N.J., is headed to Cornell University to see her wild fashion creation hit the runway April 28 at the Cornell Fashion Collective's 28th Annual Fashion Show – one of the largest student-run fashion shows in the country – after winning first place in Cornell's national Fashion Design Award competition.
Kim's design was selected among 150 entries submitted to judges from Cornell's Department of Fiber Science and Apparel Design, which issued a nationwide call for students to design an outfit under the theme "Our Dichotomous World." Her entry features a dress constructed entirely of electrical cables, with portions of the garment revealing copper threads and insulation.
The sketch is being fabricated into a real dress, which will be modeled before Kim and thousands of other spectators during this year's Cornell Fashion Collective show. The competition's second and third-place finishers will also be in attendance.
