Partner Abuse in the Minority Communities

ALBANY, NY (05/09/2008)(readMedia)-- On Tuesday, June 3, 2008, from 7:45 to 9:00 PM, at the West Islip Public Library, 3 Higbie Lane, Rm. B, the South Suffolk Chapter of the National Organization for Women will present “Partner Abuse in Minority Communities.”
Topics include what victims can do when they fear their complaints will be received with less sympathy or less respect than others, or are fearful of reporting the abuse to authorities. Information will be given as to what kinds of legal protections these victims are entitled.
Speakers are Dishpaul Dhuga, JD, from the Empire Justice Center in Albany and Jamie, Community Educator from Victims Information Bureau of Suffolk (VIBS), who will discuss resources, recourses, and legal protections for victims from immigrant and LGBT communities.
