Patent Indices Fade During Summer Slow Down
ALBANY, NY (10/06/2008)(readMedia)-- Hoffman Warnick LLC, an intellectual property law firm based in Albany, NY, has released the original and only Tech Valley Patent Index for Third Quarter 2008. The "Patent Index" includes data for: the Capital Region (Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga and Rensselaer counties), Tech Valley, Tech Valley without IBM and GE, and the Capital Region without GE.
With regard to the Third Quarter, "the numbers are all significantly lower than last quarter, but somewhat mimic third quarter 2007, indicating a summer slow down at the US Patent and Trademark Office may be the culprit," stated Spencer Warnick, partner at Hoffman Warnick LLC.
The "Patent of the Quarter" is chosen to illustrate firsthand the creativity of Tech Valley inventors. This quarter, the POQ is awarded to: US Patent No. 7399631 issued to Ivar Giaever and Charles Keese for a "Real-time impedance assay to follow the invasive activities of metastatic cells in culture." The patent issued July 15, 2008. The patent is assigned to Applied Biophysics of Troy, which is a client of Hoffman Warnick LLC.
