Pauline Flamme of Gladbrook

DES MOINES, IA (08/01/2011)(readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Pauline Flamme of Gladbrook as an Iowan of the Day for the 2011 Iowa State Fair.

Flamme started her list of volunteer activities back in 1946 when she created Gladbrook's first 4-H club. She has continued her county fair involvement for the past ten years by acting as a 4-H Leader and an entry judge at the Iowa State Fair. Flamme has also been a member of the Alpha Study Club, Gladbrook Women's Club and the United Methodist Women. For the past 32 years she has been active with the Gladbrook Gals and Guys club; an organization that does community service throughout Gladbrook. Flamme can be found picking up trash along the highway, planting flowers on Main Street or donating funds to different organizations in the community. Flamme has also dedicated many years volunteering with the youth in her community by being a Girl Scout leader and directing the Tama County Fashion Revue.

"Even though Pauline Flamme is 81, that hasn't slowed her down from brightening her community of Gladbrook," said Barbara Strohbehn, community member and Flamme's nominator. "She has been volunteering in Gladbrook for over 50 years!" Flamme's contributions to her community make her a well deserving Iowan of the Day.

Flamme's day of recognition will be Saturday, August 13 at the 2011 Iowa State Fair. Along with a one night's stay at the Downtown Des Moines Marriott, Flamme will receive a cash prize, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart. Flamme will also receive a special introduction at 2:30 p.m. August 13 on the Anne and Bill Riley Stage.

Founded in 1997, the Iowan of the Day program allows the Blue Ribbon Foundation to recognize Iowa's shining stars. The program continues to honor individuals from across the state each year who have made a difference in others' lives while upholding characteristics associated with Iowa-dependability, integrity, hard work and sense of community.

The Blue Ribbon Foundation is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Since its inception in 1993, the Foundation has generated over $80 million for renovations and improvements to the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
