Pianist Hannah Gruber to Present Two World Premieres at Recital

Hannah Gruber will give a solo piano recital on Sunday, Feb. 20, at the Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall.

POTSDAM, NY (02/03/2011)(readMedia)-- The Crane School of Music at SUNY Potsdam will present solo pianist Hannah Gruber in a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 20, in Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall on the SUNY Potsdam campus.

The recital features two world premieres, composed by Crane faculty member Dr. Tim Sullivan and Crane alumnus Brian Vlasak, respectively. Sullivan's "Wayward Suite" is a brand new composition consisting of six movements. Vlasak's "Gesticulations I" was written in 2008, but has yet to be performed. Vlasak and Gruber were undergraduates at Crane together.

Also included in the program are "Teeny Tango" by Stacy Garrop, "Study in C(ows)" by N. Cameron Britt, "Prelude Djupstrom" by Michael Djupstrom and "Three Etudes" by Whitney Ashe. Gruber said that she has a personal connection with the featured composers, and all of the pieces were written within the last eight years.

Gruber is an assistant professor of keyboard at The Crane School of Music. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in piano performance and music education from Crane in 2003, and completed her graduate studies in early childhood music education at the University of South Carolina.

She lectures throughout the country on the benefits of music in the learning environment for children with autism, and provides instruction to music educators on how to include these children in their classrooms and ensembles.

This concert is free and open to the public.
