ALTOONA, PA (10/06/2011)(readMedia)-- Penn State Altoona Letters, Arts, and Sciences major Alexander Kinney, Pittsburgh, received a $500 scholarship from Paula Ford, coordinator of the college's Robert L. Smith Learning Resources Center.

Ford, a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Developmental Educators (PADE), won the scholarship money through a raffle held by PADE. To determine which student would be awarded the scholarship, Ford held an essay contest for students with at least a 3.0 GPA and who had taken a developmental course, such as remedial math 4 or English 4. The topic was "How did taking Math 4 or English 4 help you succeed in college?"

Kinney is interested in pursuing a graduate degree in sociology.
