Pleasant Plains Native Promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 5

SPRINGFIELD, IL (02/14/2018) (readMedia)-- Springfield, Ill. –Bruce Mavis of Pleasant Plains, Illinois, was promoted to Chief Warrant Officer 5 in a ceremony at Camp Lincoln, Springfield, Illinois, Feb. 9.

A Chief Warrant Officer 5 is a master-level technical expert, who supports brigade, division, and major command level operations. It is the highest rank within the Warrant Officer Corps.

"It's a good feeling knowing the leadership of the Illinois Army National Guard has given me the opportunity to reach this position to be able to mentor Soldiers and help shape what the Guard will look like in the future," said Mavis.

Mavis enlisted in the Illinois National Guard (ILNG) in 1987, and was assigned to the 3637th Support Maintenance Company. Mavis has worked full time for the ILNG at Camp Lincoln since 1993. Mavis attended Warrant Officer Candidate School in 1996.

The ceremony was presided by Maj. Gen. Michael Zerbonia, The Assistant Adjutant General-Army, ILNG. Mavis was pinned by his grandson, Everett McGlasson.
