KING OF PRUSSIA, PA (06/09/2011)(readMedia)-- The Pennsylvania Turnpike's Northeastern Extension will remain at full capacity with no construction-related lane restrictions this weekend to accommodate increased traffic volumes expected for the Pocono 500 NASCAR race at the Pocono Raceway. Motorists should anticipate delays at the Pocono (Exit #95) and Wilkes-Barre (Exit #105) Interchanges. If using the Turnpike in this area, allow extra time for travel and seek alternate routes to avoid delays.
The lane restriction moratorium for ongoing construction projects on the Northeastern Extension (I-476) is in effect today at 3 p.m. until 6 a.m. Monday morning (6/13) when work will resume on the Turnpike's Six-lane Widening (Montgomery County) and Lehigh River and Pohopoco Creek Bridge (Carbon County) Projects.
Construction activity may take place behind the construction barrier for projects between the Mid-County (Exit #20) and Lansdale (Exit #31) Interchanges and the Lehigh Tunnel and Mahoning Valley (Exit #74) Interchange with no impact to traffic, except for emergency roadwork or traffic related incidents.
The Turnpike Highway Advisory Radio (HAR) will be activated and motorists can tune to 1640 AM for traffic and emergency roadway updates. Changeable message signs are currently in place to provide updated information regarding possible delays and closures. For emergencies, dial *11 on your mobile phone.
