ALBANY, NY (07/21/2008)(readMedia)-- The Leon J. Goldberg Foundation is sponsoring the second in a series of live WAMC radio broadcasts highlighting topics related to Alzheimer's disease. The forum, entitled "Practical Tools and Tips for Alzheimer's and Dementia Caregivers," will be held at the Linda, WAMC's Performing Arts Studio at 339 Central Avenue in Albany before a live audience on Thursday, July 24th between 1 and 2 p.m.
Audience members' questions will be answered by a panel of Capital Region experts and moderated by WAMC's Alan Chartock. Panelist include Elizabeth Smith-Boivin, the Director of the Anne B. Goldberg Alzheimer's Resource Center of Albany Medical Center, Martin S. Finn, partner with Lavelle and Finn Attorneys At Law, and Thomas Brockley, Senior Vice President-Investments of UBS PaineWebber.
During the first live broadcast, listeners learned about different forms of dementia, early Alzheimer's Disease screening, and panelists answered a number of audience members' questions.
Elizabeth Smith-Boivin, Director of the Alzheimer Research Center of Albany Medical Center says, "Alzheimer's disease is one of the most difficult challenges an individual and his/her caregivers will ever face. Fortunately, this radio series provides an opportunity for people to obtain information about the disease as well as state-of-the-art programs available to help."
The discussion was broadcast live and is archived online at wamc.org. Both the station and the Alzheimer's Resource Center were pleased with the favorable response to the first live broadcast.
"There is not a one of us who hasn't been touched by this disease in one way or another," says WAMC's President and the forum moderator, Alan Chartock. "As the baby boomer generation ages, getting information about Alzheimer's and dementia out to the public is critical in aiding early detection and treatment efforts. We think this is incredibly important."
During the July 24th forum, panelists will be discussing the legal and financial implications of the disease and helping family members and caregivers with information about health care proxies, living wills, and more.
The last of the series, "Current Trends in Alzheimer's Research," will be held on Thursday, September 18th between 1-2pm and as always, the public is invited to attend and be a part of our live studio audience.
