Price Chopper Celebrates Its Grand Opening in the Township of Wilkes-Barre, PA

Flag Raising Ceremony Performed by American Legion Post 815

SCHENECTADY, NY (11/17/2008)(readMedia)-- At 8:30am, Sunday, November 16th, the American Legion Post 815 raised the American Flag to the sounds of the National Anthem. The store located at 245 Wilkes-Barre Township Blvd. replaces the original Price Chopper on Rte. 115, which opened April 1988. The new store is a 64,000 sq. ft. and provides many more services and offers to shoppers. The store manger is Brian McAfee.

Neil Golub, President & CEO for Price Chopper, and Jerry Golub, EVP & COO were joined by other Price Chopper officials, Bill Feinstein, owner of Ventura Management, Mayor Karl Kuren, Wilkes-Barre Township officials and shoppers to celebrate the grand opening of the store and official ribbon cutting. The store on Rte. 115 closed last night at 6pm.

The new store boasts an additional 14,000 sq. ft. of floor space allowing expanded and new departments. The expansion has created approximately 100 new full and part-time jobs. Associates from the old store have been offered jobs at the new store or other Price Choppers in the area.

New to this store is a Price Chopper Pharmacy. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8am-8pm; Saturday, 9am-7pm; and Sunday 9am-3pm. A full service Sushi department has been added and offers pre-wrapped or prepared while you wait Sushi. The Seafood department has expanded to offer a wider variety of frozen seafood and fresh seafood.

The food service area features a new soup & salad bar, a hot buffet, which features American, Italian and Asian foods and a coffee shop. In addition, customers can have a made to order sandwich or salad during the hours of 11am-8pm daily. The Deli and Specialty Cheese Shop have been expanded allowing more variety.

Also new to the store is Artisan Bread and Sweet Decadent treats in the Bakery department. The over 25 varieties of Artisan Bread are made from scratch and baked fresh daily. The Bagel Factory offers made from scratch, all natural New York City style bagels.

A large seating area is located at the front of the store, near the food service offers, for easy convenience to shoppers.

On the eve of the grand opening, Price Chopper hosted a fundraising party for three local nonprofits: the John Heinz Institute, and the Wilkes-Barre Township Lions Club and Fire Department. Light fare was provided by Price Chopper and musical entertainment was by the duo Jerusalem. The duo also performed for the Grand Opening from 9-noon.
