Price Chopper Takes Precautionary Measures in Recalling Ground Beef
SCHENECTADY, NY (09/25/2007)(readMedia)-- Price Chopper Supermarkets has voluntarily recalled all frozen Topps brand products due to the results of preliminary testing conducted by the New York State Department of Agriculture which indicated the presence of E.coli 0157:H7 in both the 3 lb. and 5 lb. boxes of Topps frozen Quarter Pound Hamburger Patties with a sell by date of 6/22/08. At this time USDA is still reviewing the NYS Department of Agriculture’s findings and neither entity has issued official confirmation.
Although no Topps products other than the frozen Quarter Pound Hamburger Patties are in question at this time, Price Chopper has taken precautionary measures by removing all Topps brand products from its shelves and confirming that none remain available for sale in any of its stores. Price Chopper’s pro-activity is based on the chain’s commitment to providing the ‘Best in Fresh’ without compromising customer safety.
Because of the potential hazard of foodborne illness, any customer who purchased any Topps products should remove them from the refrigerator or freezer and return them to Price Chopper for a refund. Customers with questions may call Price Chopper’s Consumer Services Department at 1-800-666-7667, option 3.
E.coli 0157:H7 is an organism that may cause serious illness in small children, frail or elderly people and any persons with weakened immune systems and can be destroyed by cooking ground beef to an internal temperature of 160 degrees F.
