Price Chopper and the Salvation Army Work Together to Collect School Supplies

Current Economic Climate Limits Purchases by Single Parent and Low Income Families

SCHENECTADY, NY (08/14/2009)(readMedia)-- Price Chopper and the Salvation Army have partnered together to help provide school supplies to children from single-parent and low-income families. The drive began on August 2nd and will run through September 20th in all 119 Price Chopper locations.

It's as easy as 1,2,3! Shoppers purchase needed school supplies. Look for the collection bin in the front of the store and drop in the donations. The donations will be collected and distributed by the Salvation Army to families in Price Chopper's marketing area. It's that simple.

"School supplies for students can run as high as $100, and in most economically challenged areas, many students go to school empty handed," stated Pam Cerrone, Manager of Promotions & Consumer Services. She continued, "The idea came to me after reading a lot of news articles around back to school time and teachers spending their own money on supplies for classrooms. We have the opportunity to positively impact the back to school process and at the same time ease the burden on teachers."

Major Ronald Lugiano said, "Thousands of children will benefit from this school supply drive. It's a wonderful, wonderful program and The Salvation Army is thrilled to be a part of it."
