Price Chopper to Host Press Event/Flu Clinic to Celebrate New Law Allowing Pharmacists to Become Immunizers

First pharmacy chain in New York to create a statewide network of immunizers in nearly every zip code

SCHENECTADY, NY (02/13/2009)(readMedia)-- WHAT: In celebration of the recent New York State law allowing pharmacists to become immunizers, Price Chopper will be hosting a press event in addition to a flu clinic (available from 10 am - 2 pm.) Every Price Chopper pharmacy will have a pharmacist who has completed the required 20 hour CDC recognized "Pharmacy-based Immunization Delivery" training program. Immunizations will be limited to adults 19 years or older and to flu and pneumococcal vaccines.

Pharmacists as immunizers provide many advantages to the health and wellness of patients. Through daily interaction, pharmacists can easily identify those at risk for the flu based on their medication use and/or knowledge of the patient's health issues. With extended hours into the evenings and weekends, pharmacies are easily accessible and convenient to patients.
