Produce Manager for Price Chopper Honored by United Fresh Produce Association

2008 United Fresh Show held in Las Vegas

SCHENECTADY, NY (05/16/2008)(readMedia)-- Top retail Produce Managers from around the country were honored at the 2008 United Fresh Produce Association’s annual show held May 4-7 in Las Vegas.

The twenty-five winners were selected from competitive nominations submitted by retail chains, produce companies, and independent supermarkets. They were recognized for their outstanding efforts to increase produce consumption through everyday excellence in merchandising, special displays and promotions, community service, and commitment to total customer satisfaction.

John Monahan, Produce Manager at the Price Chopper in Marlborough, MA. was one of the twenty-five winners. He joined Price Chopper in March of 2003. John maintains and merchandises one of the largest volume produce departments in the company. He and his produce team create large displays that cater to the store’s diverse customer base. It has been said that the store goes the way of the produce department, and in John’s case, his store has been extremely successful. His produce department staff is extremely knowledgeable about the products they sell, and they are ready to help educate an inquisitive customer. They always encourage customers to sample products because they say, “tasting is believing and believing is the key to repeat purchases.”

John is always happy to give schoolchildren a backroom tour of the produce department. He is the zone trainer and many of his trainees go on to become successful Price Chopper produce managers.

“Price Chopper is very proud of John and his commitment to his job, store associates and our customers,” stated Barbara L. Page, Community and Public Relations Manager.

During the awards banquet, five of the winners were announced as “Grand Prize” recipients and received an additional $1,000 cash prize. John Monahan was one of the five.
