The Natural Heritage Trust (NHT) is a not-for-profit public benefit corporation of the State of New York and is recognized as a tax-exempt organization under section 501©(3) of the federal Internal Revenue Code. The NHT serves as a focal point for the receipt and management of private funds, gifts, and grants given to New York State for developing, improving and/or maintaining public programs in conservation, recreation, historic preservation, and community improvement.
The NHT, through its fundraising efforts, has helped to preserve open space, parklands and historic sites and assisted with local, regional, and statewide conservation and quality community initiatives as part of its affiliation with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation and the Departments of State and Environmental Conservation.
