ALBANY, NY (08/02/2016)(readMedia)-- Edward C. Farrell, Executive Director of the Retired Public Employees Associations (RPEA) today issued a statement of strong support for the residents of Hoosick Falls and Petersburgh. Farrell stated, "Ensuring a safe water supply is one of the most basic functions of government. In this instance, government has failed miserably."

Farrell continued, "We have members who are affected by this, as are their children and grandchildren. The residents of Hoosick Falls and Petersbugh seem to be going it alone, and that should not be the case. They are entitled to real answers regarding this health crisis. Designating the area as a superfund site will help with financial liabilities, but the more important issue is health and well being."

RPEA represents retired state and local government employees and has been in existence since 1969. While RPEA generally focuses on preserving benefits which were earned when its members were active employees, Farrell noted, "There is no greater benefit in retirement than one's health."

Farrell concluded, "As hearings commence on this failure on the part of the government, we must look forward and protect our residents. This is not rocket science. Even ancient Rome understood the importance of a safe water supply."
