ALBANY, NY (09/25/2013)(readMedia)-- The New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) today announced the public meeting for the scoping phase of the I-81 project will be held on November 13 at the Oncenter in downtown Syracuse, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Scoping is an early phase of the environmental review required by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). During the scoping phase, NYSDOT and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) will seek input from the public on what issues should be considered in the Environmental Impact Statement that will be prepared for the project.
The public scoping meeting on November 13 will be an opportunity for the public to formally submit comments both orally and in writing. People who are unable to attend the meeting will be able to submit comments electronically or through regular mail throughout the 30-day "scoping comment period," which is expected to begin in late October. Comments submitted during this period will become part of the official project record and will be responded to in a report to be issued early next year.
NYSDOT will provide details about how to submit comments before the scoping meeting is held.
