Queens-based N Y Army National Guard finance unit to deploy to Middle East


NEW YORK (06/01/2023) (readMedia)-- Eighteen New York Army National Guard Soldiers from New York City, assigned to the 4th Finance Detachment, will hold a farewell ceremony with their families as they mobilize for federal active duty and prepare to deploy to the Middle East.

The Soldiers, based at the Whitestone Army in Queens, will be conducting post-mobilization training at Fort Bliss, Texas before deploying.

The 4th Finance Detachment is part of the New York Army National Guard's 27th Finance Battalion which, while deployed, provides financial support, military pay, and internal control to Army units.

The finance detachment helps Soldiers resolve military pay issues, disburses funds to pay contractors or to finance civic aid projects, and maintains financial information for Army units in their area.

The detachment Soldiers will deploy to the Middle East in support of Operation Inherent Resolve, providing resource management in support of Combined Special Operation Joint Task Force - Levant and Combined Special Operations Joint Task Force - Central.

The deployment supports ongoing efforts to maintain the enduring defeat of ISIS and promote regional stability in the Middle East.

The Soldiers will mobilize and train for a brief period at Fort Bliss, Texas, before deploying overseas. They are expected to return home in April 2024.

The unit previously deployed in 2014 and before that, in 2008 to Bagram, Afghanistan.
