SPRINGFIELD, IL (09/22/2016)(readMedia)-- Staff Sgt. Jason K. Lawrence of Quincy, Illinois, was awarded the Illinois Distinguished Service Medal by Brig. Gen. Michael Zerbonia of Chatham, Illinois, the Assistant Adjutant General-Army, during a ceremony at Camp Lincoln in Springfield, Illinois, Sept. 15, 2016. Lawrence received the award for his acts of heroism as a first responder on the scene of a traffic accident May 25, 2016 in Quincy, Illinois.

"Lawrence's quick ability to evaluate a casualty and perform first aide made a positive impact on the health of an injured civilian," the award stated. "SSG Lawrence's actions reflect great credit upon him, the Recruiting and Retention Battalion, the noncommissioned officer corps, and the Illinois Army National Guard.
