ReEnergy Holdings Names John O'Rourke Facility Manager at Sterling Energy

LATHAM, NY (10/25/2011)(readMedia)-- ReEnergy Holdings LLC, a Latham, N.Y.- based renewable energy company, has appointed John O'Rourke as Facility Manager at the Sterling Energy Facility in Sterling, Conn.

Mr. O'Rourke is responsible for the day-to-day management and operations at Sterling, which uses discarded tires to produce an average of 200,000 MWH of electricity per year, enough to supply nearly 30,000 homes. The power produced at Sterling conserves approximately 480,000 barrels of oil a year.

Mr. O'Rourke, of Sprague, Conn., joins ReEnergy after more than two decades with Wheelabrator Technologies Inc., a world leader in the safe and environmentally sound conversion of municipal waste and other renewable waste fuels into clean energy. He was plant manager at Wheelabrator's facility in Saugus, Mass., from 2007 until joining ReEnergy, leading one of Wheelabrator's top-performing operations.

"John brings a tremendous amount of power plant experience and a record of achieving excellent operational and financial results," said Larry Richardson, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of ReEnergy. "We have made significant investments to improve Sterling's efficiency and environmental performance in the 10 months that we have owned and operated the facility, and we're pleased to welcome someone of John's caliber and stature to lead and manage our operations."

Mr. O'Rourke has spent most of his professional career with Wheelabrator, beginning as a plant operator in Bridgeport, Conn., in 1987. He was plant manager of Wheelabrator's facility in Lisbon, Conn., for seven years before taking over operations at the Saugus plant.

"This was a great opportunity to join a dynamic and growing business that is committed to safety, quality and developing sustainable green energy solutions," Mr. O'Rourke said. "I'm excited to be a part of an organization that is helping our country make real strides toward energy independence."

The Sterling Energy Facility is the only large-scale end-use market for scrap tires in southern New England, according to the Rubber Manufacturers Association. The plant began commercial operation in 1991, and has kept approximately 200 million tires out of regional landfills.

ReEnergy acquires, owns and operates facilities that use biomass and fuels from waste residue to produce renewable thermal and electric energy. The company, a subsidiary of Riverstone Holdings LLC, owns facilities or has acquisitions pending in New York, Connecticut, New Hampshire and Maine.
