WESTMINSTER, MD (11/11/2011)(readMedia)-- The oldest building at McDaniel College has been officially dedicated and renamed Rembert House in celebration of alumni Don and Judy Ellis Rembert's efforts to honor the college's history and founding as Western Maryland College. Don and Judy Ellis Rembert reside in Reston, Va.

Rembert House located at 205 Pennsylvania Avenue, Westminster, Md., contains the WMC Heritage Society along with historical displays. The house also will host small alumni meetings and will provide a campus apartment for visiting scholars and lecturers.

The project consisted of $300,000 in renovations to the house to resemble the original 1830s structure. All of the funding came from alumni of the college, with a significant portion coming from Don and Judy Ellis Rembert, classes of 1961 and 1960, respectively.

In addition to their monetary contribution, the Remberts started the WMC Heritage Society in 2004 to celebrate the history of the college. In 2002, the college changed its name from Western Maryland College to McDaniel College.

Rembert House, formerly known as the Fayette Buell House, was built around 1830. McDaniel's founder Fayette Buell rented the house to start the college there.
