Senior forward Ryan Marcano of the Oglethorpe University men's soccer team has been named the Southern Athletic Association Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the team's victories over Claremont-M-S and Pomona-Pitzer at Emory's Sonny Carter Invitational. Marcano is a graduate of Greater Atlanta Christian School.
Marcano got his season off to an outstanding start as the Petrels finished first in the four-team event. The Stormy Petrel forward scored in both games- tallying the opening goal in the team's 2-1 overtime win against Claremont-M-S. He also scored the second goal of the Petrels' 4-0 rout of Pomona-Pitzer. Marcano fired five total shots over the course of the weekend, and he scored a total of three.
He and the rest of the Stormy Petrels will be back in action on Friday and Sunday. They'll head back to Emory's Woodruff PE Center on Friday evening at 7 p.m. to take on the crosstown-rival Eagles. They'll then host Gordon in their home opener Sunday at 6 p.m.
