ESPERANCE, NY (08/14/2007)(readMedia)-- On August 13 - 14, inmates from the Summit Shock Correctional facility (Summit, NY) will be working at the Landis Arboretum to gather and ship more than 4,000 abandoned tires from the property of the Landis Arboretum. Later this week, the Arboretum will implementing a Stanley Smith Horticulture Trust Grant to landscape the hillside above the entry to the Arboretum from the lower parking lot. The work incorporates new dwarf conifers to be introduced into the Quarry Garden.
• With the help of area businesses such as White Birch Nursery and the Brickman Group (both of Schenectady), the Arboretum will install more than $10,000 worth of landscape between August 16 – 17
• Conscurrently, the Arboretum will benefit from donations from the Middleburgh, NY, facility of Carver Stone Products and assistance from Plantscapes (Duanesburg) to relocate its Visitors Center from the existing parking-lot area to the carriage house adjacent to the Farm House, and expand the parking area to accommodate the increase in visitations to the Arboretum.
• Within this period, the ARboretum plans to install hundreds of new Trail signs that have been created for the Arboretum by Capital Supply (Delanson).
• The ARboretum acknowledges the donations and support from the Esperance Elks, BOCES, NYSARC, and receipts from the July 21 fundraising concert featuring Fulton County’s award-winning soft rock back FLAME and Schoharie County’s senior sizzlers Ms. Cherie and the Hot Pots.
