CANTON, NY (04/04/2012)(readMedia)-- Food grown locally tastes better at SUNY Canton.
The SUNY Canton College Association, Inc., has invited area food growers and vendors to a showcase event and meal to be held 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, in Chaney Dining Center.
The Local Vendor Showcase will put diners in touch with the people responsible for growing or producing the raw ingredients of some of the dining options on Campus. Most menu items served during the event will be grown, purchased, or produced in the North Country.
The College Association works with area farmers to obtain fresh foods to create their daily dining options. Locally purchased food also helps the area's economy.
"We are holding this event to educate our students on where and why we purchase locally grown foods," Assistant Dining Center Manager Jason Bartholomew said. "It provides a fantastic opportunity for our growers to explain what goes into producing their food items."
The cost for the public is $10.95 per person at this special event. Regular charges will apply for students, and they can use their meal plans to participate.
SUNY Canton offers 22 career-driven bachelor's degrees in addition to its associate and certificate programs. SUNY Canton OnLine features more than 190 courses online each semester. The College's athletic teams belong to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. The College is home to a brand-new athletic facility, nicknamed Roos House, and the Grasse River Suites, offering students single rooms in apartment-style settings while they live on campus.
