SUNY Delhi Graduates Score above National Average on Veterinary Technician Exam

DELHI, NY (07/16/2016)(readMedia)-- Graduates of SUNY Delhi's Veterinary Science Technology program scored well above the national average on the recent Veterinary Technician National Exam (VTNE).

Delhi graduates who took the national exam for the first time during Spring 2016 achieved an 89 percent pass rate, compared to the national average of 64 percent.

"This is our highest pass rate in the past 10 years, which speaks to the strength of the Veterinary Science Technology Program at SUNY Delhi," said Dr. Bret Meckel, Department Chair of Veterinary Science Technology. "These results show that Delhi students benefit from excellent facilities and faculty who are top in their field."

The Veterinary Technician National Examination is owned and administered by the American Association of Veterinary State Boards. The VTNE is used to evaluate entry-level veterinary technicians' competency to practice and to be credentialed. Most states and provinces require a passing score on the VTNE as one criterion for credentialing. The exam is administered as a computer-based exam three times a year throughout the U.S. and Canada.

Established in 1961, SUNY Delhi's Veterinary Science Technology Program (AAS) was the first program of its type in the United States. Since its inception, it has developed into a dynamic, nationally recognized program. Thanks to the program's unmatched laboratory facilities and experiential learning tradition, Delhi graduates are well prepared as technical personnel for careers in the biomedical and veterinary medical fields. Past internship opportunities with NASA, Rockefeller University, the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell and Boehringer Ingelheim, have also helped distinguish Delhi's Veterinary Science Technology degree as one of the nation's preeminent programs.

SUNY Delhi's Veterinary Science Technology (AAS) program is fully accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).
