SUNY Delhi Hosts Alumni Centennial Celebration

Event Promises "Not Your Average Alumni Weekend"

DELHI, NY (05/17/2013)(readMedia)-- The SUNY Delhi Alumni Weekend, Friday, May 31 – Sunday, June 2, will celebrate the college's 100th birthday with activities for all ages, including a comedy show, an Alumni Golf Tournament, a golden alumni gathering, and awards ceremonies to recognize outstanding Delhi alumni.

Kappa Sigma Epsilon will host an Alumni Golf Tournament, Friday, May 31, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at The College Golf Course at Delhi to benefit the KSE scholarship endowment, the SUNY Delhi Alumni Association and the Heart of the Catskills Humane Society. All are welcome to participate. The afternoon is filled with welcome back tours and a cocktail reception with current and retired faculty. That evening, a Brooks barbeque will be held in the Agora in front of Farrell Center with Dr. K's Motown Revue providing Motown hits.

A full day of activities Saturday, June 1, will include breakfast meetings by Kappa Sigma Epsilon, Delta Theta Gamma and Tri-Atelier, a history presentation by Delhi faculty Terry Hamblin and Lisa Tessier, and a performance by the Oneonta-based Mid-Statesmen Choral Group. A tailgate party with field games, horse drawn carriage rides, old-fashioned photo sessions, and campus tours will add to the fun.

Four of SUNY Delhi's stand-out athletes will be inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame at 3 p.m. June 1 in the Clark Field House. Inductees include Coach Glen Reither, 1965 - 1991, Guy Taylor '66, Charles Ives '66 and Jennifer LePinnet-Clark '04.

Golden Alumni will host a gathering in the afternoon in the Kennedy Lounge and the evening's main event, the Alumni Awards Dinner and Comedy Show, will recognize special alumni and friends.

Walter "Bud" Caroompas of Binghamton will receive the SUNY Delhi Alumni Association's highest honor, the Distinguished Alumni Award. This award honors those who have made a dedicated, continued and outstanding contribution to their profession, community and SUNY Delhi. Caroompas is a 1963 Business Management graduate who has been a Binghamton resident since graduating from SUNY Delhi. He served as sales manager for the car dealership Van Atta Buick-GMC Truck Inc., Binghamton, and went on to serve as a sales manager at Manufacturers and Traders Trust Company for 12 years before retiring. Caroompas is a U.S. Navy veteran who recently served as a guest panelist at the college's Veterans Day centennial celebration. He was nominated to the Alumni Association Board in 1992 and currently serves on the SUNY Delhi Alumni Advisory Council. He was elected a trustee of the College Foundation in 1995 and serves as the Foundation's liaison to the Alumni Association. In 2012, Caroompas was honored with the Immaculata Award by the Syracuse Diocese for his many dedicated years of service to the Saints John and Andrew Church, Binghamton.

Rebecca Kelly Rivera of Middletown will receive the Alumna of Merit award, which recognizes a Delhi alumna who is a rising star in her field. Rivera is a 1996 graduate of SUNY Delhi's associate's degree in Architectural Technology program. She currently owns her own firm, R&R Design Group in Montgomery, managing jobs that range from an $8 million addition to Rondout Valley High School to a $5 million addition and renovation of Spackenkill High School in Poughkeepsie to the construction of the new Middletown Elementary School, the largest elementary school to be built in New York State. Previously, she has worked at firms designing small residential and commercial projects such as supermarkets, car dealerships, condos, recording studios, and multi-million dollar homes in the Hamptons.

Ulla Wadner of Stamford will receive the Exemplary Service Award, which recognizes individuals who stimulate the interest and support of alumni, support alumni events, give financially to the college, and offer helpful suggestions for alumni-related initiatives. Wadner has served as catering manager for the College Association of Delhi, Inc. for 13 years. She has organized food service for countless campus events and visiting dignitaries, always giving special attention to the smallest detail while providing impeccable service. She has managed catering for major events, including Alumni Weekend, Farrell Center's grand opening, the Delaware County Republican dinner, the Educational Golf Tournament, and many private weddings.

The SUNY Delhi Alumni Weekend will conclude on Sunday with a farewell breakfast buffet in MacDonald Hall dining center from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.
