DELHI, NY (11/17/2009)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi, in cooperation with the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) and the Interstate Renewable Energy Council (IREC), will offer a five-day, 40-hour, "Photovoltaic (PV) Design and Installation Basics" workshop from January 4-8, 2010.
Through SUNY Delhi, one of the few ISPQ (Institute for Sustainable Power Quality) accredited program providers in the United States, participants will receive five full days of training from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The instructor will be Mr. Robert Morris, retired SUNY Delhi instructor with 28 years of teaching experience in the Electrical Construction and Maintenance program. He has taught Photovoltaics since 2003 and is a NABCEP certified installer.
The workshop will cover topics such as site survey, system sizing, selection of proper PV equipment and balance of system components, proper construction techniques, voltage drop considerations and wire sizing, National Electric Code (NEC) requirements, safety issues while working with PV Installations, and battery safety. Participants will also gain hands-on experience installing a grid-tied and battery-based system.
All participants are required to bring a calculator, notebook, and pen or pencil. Textbook, meters and NEC codebooks will be provided. Participants are also encouraged, but not required, to bring their own hand tools, such as screwdrivers, wire strippers, etc., as well as a copy of the National Electrical Code, if owned.
As the class size is limited to 20 participants, early registration is recommended. No previous PV experience is necessary. Registration fee is $799. While lunch will be provided, participants are responsible for lodging and other meals.
