DELHI, NY (09/12/2017) (readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi continues to climb up the "Best Regional Colleges in the North" achieving its highest position to date by ranking 17th in the 2018 edition of "Best Colleges" by U.S. News Media Group.
This is the 12th consecutive year SUNY Delhi has been ranked by U.S. News as a Best College. Delhi was ranked 19th on the 2017 list. The exclusive rankings, which include more than 1,600 schools nationwide, are now available online at www.usnews.com/colleges.
In addition, SUNY Delhi is one of only five colleges in the North where students graduate with the least amount of debt. Delhi also ranked 11th as a Best College in the North for veterans and was the only SUNY campus cited for cultural diversity.
"The U.S. News rankings highlight many of SUNY Delhi's unique strengths," said President Michael R. Laliberte. "They confirm that our emphasis on providing students with an affordable, applied learning experience results in outstanding graduate outcomes. We're also proud to be recognized as a leader in creating a campus environment that attracts and supports a diverse student body."
"Each of SUNY's 64 colleges and universities help our students find their purpose and their passion. Whether it's in research, education, outreach, or engagement, our colleges and universities strive to achieve excellence in everything they do," said SUNY Chancellor Kristina M. Johnson. "We are thrilled that so many of our SUNY campuses have again received favorable rankings by U.S. News & World Report. While we appreciate that rankings are one indication of quality, it does help demonstrate that SUNY is one of the best national education systems. Congratulations to each of the SUNY campuses recognized by the 2018 U.S. News and World Report rankings."
The college continues to be recognized as a national leader in online education by U.S. News for its innovative offerings including the Master of Science in Nursing Education and the RN to BSN program. Recently, the college was approved to add a Master of Science in Nursing Administration, expanding its ability to meet critical workforce needs in New York State and the nation. SUNY Delhi is also recognized for offering the first online Criminal Justice Bachelor of Science degree within the State University of New York and an online Bachelor of Business Administration in Hospitality Management that offers credit for industry experience.
Delhi's volunteer tradition has also led to accolades. The college is among an elite group to earn the highly coveted Community Engagement Classification from the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement. Delhi has been selected for the President's National Honor Roll for Community Service every year since the award's inception in 2006. Thanks to its commitment to student veterans, the college has been named as a Military Friendly College for five consecutive years and has qualified as a Yellow Ribbon School.
The U.S. News rankings measure academic quality by examining seven broad indicator areas: peer assessment; retention and graduation of students; faculty resources; student selectivity; financial resources; and alumni giving. Indicators include both "input measures," which reflect the quality of students, faculty and other resources used in education, and "outcome measures," such as graduation and freshman retention rates, which signal how well the institution educates its student body.
