SUNY Delhi Student Competes for 2013 National "Student Chef of the Year"

DELHI, NY (04/12/2013)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi culinary arts major Alexis Chamoff of Flushing, NY, will compete for the 2013 American Culinary Arts Federation (ACF) national "Student Chef of the Year" title. The competition will take place at the ACF National Convention in Las Vegas, Nev., July 21 – 25. The "Student Chef of the Year" recognizes an up-and-coming student who possesses a high degree of professionalism, culinary skill and passion for the culinary arts.

Chamoff earned her trip to the national competition by winning the 2013 ACF Northeast Regional "Student Chef of the Year" competition, held at Turning Stone Resort Casino, Verona, N.Y., March 17–20.

Chamoff is obtaining her bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts Management at SUNY Delhi, where she is in her junior year. Her interest in culinary arts started at a young age when she would help her brother cook dinners inspired by the Food Network channel. Chamoff is a member of the ACF Long Island Chapter and is garde manager at the Tolani Wine Restaurant in New York City.

Chamoff has won two gold medals for her hot-food displays in ACF-sanctioned competitions. She apprenticed for the 2012 SUNY Delhi hot food team, which won the ACF national title. Delhi's hot food team also won the ACF national title in 2010. Delhi has unparalleled status as the only college in New York State to ever win the ACF national team championship.

SUNY Delhi's culinary arts program has long been recognized as one of the best in the country. The program offers students a firm foundation from which to start their careers as culinary professionals. Signatures by Candlelight, a full service fine dining restaurant, is open to the public and operated by SUNY Delhi students. In addition to the core classes, there are numerous culinary electives offered, such as advanced meat cutting, culinary competition, advanced pastries and confections, and culinary ice sculpting.
