DELHI, NY (05/18/2017) (readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi will mark its 100th Commencement with the first outdoor ceremony in college memory Saturday, May 20 at 10 a.m. on the college track. The historic occasion coincides with several milestones for the college, including the first graduates of the Master of Science in Nursing Education program, the first graduates of SUNY Delhi's Automotive Technology certification partnership with Delaware Academy, and the retirement of the college's first mascot, Lucky.
Lucky will participate in the ceremony in a mock graduation to symbolize the Bronco's moving on. Throughout the fall semester, students voted to choose the name and design of the college's new character. The winner, Blaze, will make its official debut this fall at Convocation.
Among more than 700 students receiving degrees on Saturday will be the first 10 graduates of SUNY Delhi's first graduate degree program, the nationally recognized online Master of Science in Nursing Education. Launched in 2014, the program bolster's Delhi's reputation as a leader in nursing education by delivering affordable, high-quality graduate education to nurses in New York and beyond.
Commencement will also feature the first graduating class of the College Technical Education Program, a partnership between SUNY Delhi and Delaware Academy Central School District that allows students to simultaneously earn a high school diploma and a SUNY Delhi Automotive Technology certificate. The program was launched in 2015. Superintendent of Schools Jason D. Thomson will be on hand to congratulate the three Delaware Academy graduates.
Students will be recognized at the ceremony as the Baccalaureate Degree Student of the Year and the Associate Degree Student of the Year.
