SUNY Delhi's Backus Named NJCAA Region III Athletic Director of the Year

DELHI, NY (08/10/2013)(readMedia)-- SUNY Delhi Athletic Director Bob Backus has been named 2012-13 Athletic Director of the Year by the National Junior College Athletic Association for Region III.

"This award would not be possible without all of the support and dedication of the athletic department and campus community members," said Backus. I'm humbled and honored to receive this recognition. It truly is a great day to be a Bronco!"

Backus was selected by a committee of his Region III athletic director peers. Region III is comprised of 26 colleges and divided into the Mid-State Athletic Conference, the Western Athletic Conference and the Mountain Valley Conference, in which Delhi competes.

Backus was selected by his peers for his commitment and dedication to his institution and the region. He is acknowledged for hosting numerous regional and national championship events in a first class manner. Region III also cited Backus for administering SUNY Delhi's athletic program with the highest level of integrity.

Backus recently completed his fifth year as Director of Athletics with a total of 20 years serving SUNY Delhi. He serves on Region III's Standards and Ethics Committee and is chair of Championship Events, Cross Country and Track & Field Committees.

NJCAA Region III recognizes member institutions that exhibit dedication to the honor and integrity of intercollegiate athletics and whose student-athletes and staff display stellar sportsmanship during competition.

SUNY Delhi's outstanding facilities have attracted the NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship, the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championship, and the NJCAA Division III Cross Country Championship. The Clark Field House features the Floyd L. Maines Arena, the CADI Fitness Center, and a mini-dome. The college's athletic facilities also include the Kunsela Hall Aquatics Center, The College Golf Course, an eight-lane 400-meter outdoor track, playing fields, racquetball/handball courts, and indoor and outdoor tennis courts.
