POTSDAM, NY (10/07/2011)(readMedia)-- One stitch at a time, the SUNY Potsdam Student Success Center is patching together a fundraiser to recognize its students for their work.
The Student Success Center will present a homemade quilt, in the SUNY Potsdam colors, to an individual who helps to raise funds toward a third award to be provided to students who have made strides in their education with help from the department's services.
The Student Success Center at SUNY Potsdam annually gives two high-achieving students who have shown perseverance amid personal and/or academic hardship a $500 award. Award winners must have used the services of at least two offices in the SSC and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Preference is given to second-semester freshmen who have completed 12 to 23 academic credit hours.
A staff member from the SSC who would like to remain anonymous wanted to contribute to the cause in her own unique way by crafting a quilt with Potsdam pride in hopes of raising money for an additional student award. Donations will be collected throughout the Fall 2011 semester. The quilt will be presented to a donor during the final week of classes in December. In May 2012, the Student Success Center awards will be presented to students selected by the center's award board.
"It says a lot about the dedication of our staff for someone to have given so much time to craft a quilt to create a third award," said Tamara Durant, director of the Student Success Center.

The SUNY Potsdam Student Success Center encourages and guides students to more effectively identify and use available campus resources in order to promote their academic and personal success on campus and beyond.
