Marla Caram of Hudson lands internship with professional Saint Michael's Playhouse at Saint Michael's College.

COLCHESTER, VT (06/14/2011)(readMedia)-- Marla Caram, the daughter of Bruce and Kathleen Caram of Hudson, Mass., a senior theater major at Saint Michael's College, landed a coveted summer internship with Saint Michael's Playhouse. The Playhouse, which operates under contract with Actors' Equity Association contract, is owned and operated by Saint Michael's College in Burlington, VT.

Ms. Caram was offered an administrative internship with the professional theater company. Her duties include box office operation, which entails selling tickets and customer interaction, and work in the set shop, helping to build the scenes that will appear on stage.

"I've learned more about tools in these couple weeks than I ever knew before," Ms. Caram said, after describing herself as normally acting in college theater productions.

"I've taken classes on set construction, but actually being exposed to a working set shop is an entirely different experience." She says the increased pace and higher standards of perfection demanded by working for the Playhouse are a shock, but are well worth the effort.

When asked about the opportunities presented to her, Ms. Caram expressed deep excitement about the connections she is making. "The connections you make at the Playhouse are crazy and can last a lifetime. I'm sure I'll work with people from the Playhouse again, in or out of the college."

"I think everybody who is a theater major at Saint Michael's should try to do it," she said. "I wouldn't have spent my summer any other way." Playhouse internships are highly competitive and very valuable.
