SAVANNAH, GA (10/15/2013)(readMedia)-- Brentwood high school graduate and Savannah College of Art and Design graphic design student Trey Veal has been named a winner in the Columbia Scholastic Press Association's Gold Circle Awards. Veal's work for SCAD Atlanta's student magazine SCAN was recognized in the Page Design Portfolio category.
Veal said he grew up loving art and always wanted to pursue a career in the creative field. He enjoyed working on his school's yearbook staff so much that he began researching graphic design programs with the support of art teacher Christy Wallace. After applying to several art schools and being accepted, Veal visited SCAD and decided it was without a doubt where he wanted to get his degree.
"Since being at SCAD I have been exposed to what design can really do," Veal said. "I have been taught how design is so beneficial to everyone around me. I'm not just making things that 'look cool,' I get to improve people's lives and make a difference while doing something I love."
For the past 30 years the Gold Circle Awards have recognized superior work by student journalists. The media represented is published in schools or colleges throughout the U.S. and in overseas schools following an American plan of education. Experienced journalists and expert educators judge the more than 15,000 annual submissions. Award winners receive various certificates of recognition and the honor of being selected by this prestigious program.
The Columbia Scholastic Press Association is an international student press association founded in 1925, whose goal is to unite student journalists and faculty advisers at schools and colleges through educational conferences, idea exchanges, textbooks, critiques and award programs.
