Sarah Ayers Selected to CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large First Team

GEORGETOWN, TX (05/24/2011)(readMedia)-- The 2010-11 Capital One Academic All-District® Women's At-Large (Sports) Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, have been released to recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performance athletically and in the classroom. Junior swimmer Sarah Ayers was selected to the All-District First Team.

Ayers had an outstanding junior campaign and boasts a 3.81 gpa while majoring in math and secondary education. She was the SCAC Event Champion in the 100 back to earn a NCAA "A" Cut qualification and All-SCAC Team pick. At the NCAA Championships she came in 7th place in the event earning Southwestern's first-ever All-America honors. While serving as the team captain this season Ayers was named SCAC Swimmer of the Week and is the current record holder in the 100 back, 100 fly, and 400 free relay.

The Academic All-District® teams include the student-athletes listed and are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. The University Division team includes NCAA Division I participants, while the College Division team combines NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the national Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where First, Second and Third Team All-America honorees will be selected later this month. Student-athletes on the Academic All-District Second and Third teams (if applicable) do not advance to the national ballot.

The Southwestern women's swimming team finished in 6th place at the 2011 SCAC Swim and Dive Championships.
