Satellite Feed at 3:30 Today: Pa. Turnpike Celebrates Start of $151 Million Project in Montgomery County

HARRISBURG, PA (03/04/2011)(readMedia)-- The Pa. Satellite News Service will provide a 3:30 p.m. satellite feed today of a news event that took place near the northbound shoulder of the Northeastern Extension adjacent to the DeKalb Pike in Blue Bell, Pa.

This morning at 10 a.m., transportation leaders and elected officials marked the launch of a major Turnpike construction project to improve the busiest section of the Northeastern Extension. Officials broke ground on the $151 million endeavor to rebuild a six-mile section of the toll road and construction of one additional lane in each direction. Work is expected to start March 6, weather permitting.

Improvements are focused on the southernmost stretch of the Northeastern Extension, Interstate 476, in Montgomery County, just north of the Mid-County Interchange (#20). Work is expected to last three years until completion in late 2013.

Turnpike leaders were joined by State Rep. Kate Harper, State Rep. Matthew D. Bradford and county and township officials to celebrate the start of construction.
