Savannah LeGate Named Preseason All-America by D3hoops.com

D3hoops.com named sophomore center Savannah LeGate to their preseason All-America fourth team on Thursday. It marked the first time that a member of the Oglethorpe women's basketball team has been named to the website's preseason list of the best players in the country.

LeGate picks up the 2018-19 season right where she left off at the end of the 2017-18 campaign. At the conclusion of that season, she earned D3hoops.com Rookie of the Year honors as the nation's most outstanding freshman, and was also named South Region Rookie of the Year by the website, which serves as the site of note for NCAA Division III men's and women's basketball around the country. They also named her to their All-South Region first team. In addition, LeGate earned accolades from the SAA's coaches as both the league's most outstanding player and newcomer. She also earned a spot on the All-SAA first team, and took SAA Tournament MVP honors as she led her squad to their first conference title since 2009 and a spot in the NCAA tournament.

The Nashville, Tennessee, native averaged 13.7 points and 10.6 rebounds per game over the course of the 2017-18 season. No other SAA performer averaged a double-double on the year. That mark of 10.6 boards per game gave her the league's rebounding title. "Savannah's best traits never show in a box score," said Oglethorpe head coach Alex Richey. "She is an incredible teammate and her positive attitude is infectious to our team and coaching staff. We are all excited that she has been recognized as a preseason All-American and I firmly believe that, if she continues to work and lead like she has thus far, she will be one of the best players in the country at the end of the season, as well." The D3hoops.com preseason All-America teams are chosen from among the previous season's All-America and All-Region nominees. The site has named preseason All-America teams for both men and women each season since 2010-11. The Stormy Petrels will tip off their season on Nov. 12, when they travel across town to take on Emory at 6 p.m. They'll take part in their home opener the next day when they welcome Agnes Scott to Dorough Field House, also at 6 p.m.
