Scotia Man Recognized as Outstanding Member of the New York Naval Militia for 2012

LATHAM, NY (09/12/2012)(readMedia)-- Scotia resident Garrett Aldershoff, has been named the New York State Naval Militia Member of the Year.
Aldershoff, was presented with the Josephthal Award, named for the New York Naval Militia commander who set aside the money to provide the award, for his superior work ethic and dedication to the mission of the New York Naval Militia.
He was presented with the award by New York Naval Militia Rear Admiral David Tucker during a ceremony held on Saturday, Sept. 8 at the Naval Operational Support Center Schenectady in Glenville.
The New York Naval Militia is the naval component of the New York State defense forces. As part of the New York State Division of Military and Naval Affairs, the Naval Militia complements the Army and Air National Guard programs, as well as the New York State Guard.
Since 1891 the Naval Militia has responded to emergencies and taskings throughout New York State, providing assistance and support at the direction of The Adjutant General.
Nearly all (95%) of the Naval Militia is composed of federal reserve forces from the United States Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard. The New York Naval Militia is recognized by United States code (Title 10), and has established partnerships with many federal and state agencies including the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Border Patrol and the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
