Junior goalkeeper Scott Zoino of the Oglethorpe men's soccer team was named the Southern Athletic Association Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week by the league office on Monday, marking the second time this season that the Stormy Petrel goalie earned the honor.
Zoino had an outstanding week in net for the Petrels, allowing just one goal over two games as his team earned road victories over in-state opponents Emory and Berry. He posted his sixth shutout of the season against Berry on Friday, stopping four shots in the process. He also picked up a pair of crucial saves in the second half of the Petrels' 2-1 win at Emory on Tuesday.
For the season, Zoino is tied for the league lead in wins (11) and is second in shutouts. He's also fifth in goals against average (1.08) and tied for fifth in fewest goals allowed (14).
