ALBANY, NY (07/18/2011)(readMedia)-- Hoffman Warnick LLC (HW), an intellectual property law firm with offices in Albany and Rochester, NY has released the Rochester Patent Index for Second Quarter 2011. The "Rochester Patent Index" includes patent issuance data for Monroe and Ontario Counties with and without XEROX and KODAK.

In the second quarter of 2011, it can be seen that both the overall number of patent issuances, as well as the number of patent issuances without Xerox and Kodak, in the Rochester area dipped. "Much of this decrease may be a sign that the United States Patent and Trademark Office's (USPTO) is settling back to 'business as usual' after a recent push to eliminate its backlog" stated Michael Hoffman. "We've seen an unprecedented number of allowances over the past several quarters by the USPTO, but that trend is apparently coming to an end."

"While it is discouraging to see such a drop in patent issuances in the Rochester area, we remain confident that the trend is not indicative of any downturns in the long term growth of technology companies in the Rochester area," Hoffman added. Hoffman Warnick LLC formally opened a new office at 25 East Main Street in downtown Rochester because of large growth potential of small to midsize tech companies in the region.

In addition, Hoffman Warnick represents large companies such as Xerox, which continues to innovate in their field, as is evident for instance by recently issued US Patent 7,970,295 for a "Document Processing System and Method for Adjustable Print Consumable Refill Level."
