Seneca Nation of Indians Federal Credit Union is Open for Business.

Today the Seneca Nation Officials and the Credit Union Board of Directors cut the ribbon announcing the official opening.

Over 75 people attended the opening ceremony conducted by Board Chairperson, Lucille White.

Todd Gates, Treasurer for the Seneca Nation spoke of the opportunities the credit union will provide the Seneca Community, its employees at the Nation, and Seneca Niagara and Seneca Allegany Casino employees and their families. The Credit Union will offer banking privileges our members have heretofore not been able to obtain from local banking institutions.

Michael Kimelberg, Chief Operating Officer spoke on behalf of President John who had a previous engagement. Michael applauded the dedication of the credit union originators, now the board led by Stephen Scott, Deputy Director of Planning who stewarded the board through the lengthy application process. It has taken the Seneca Nation Credit Union three long years to receive their certification and Marie Betti, Vice Chair of the New York Association of Credit Unions spoke how Seneca is only the second credit union approved in the past year.

Councilwomen Christina Jimerson who had worked alongside the board throughout the process also spoke of how our philosophies mirror one another. "People helping People." In doing so our Credit Union will of course be successful.

Ms. White, Board Chair presented Connie Scherrer, President/CEO whom the Board had hired from another credit union located in Rochester, NY. Hiring an experienced manager is a plus in being able to move our credit union in today's opening. Other staff members were also introduced all ready to sign up new customers working with the Seneca membership.

Connie Scherrer, President CEO presented Stephen Scott, Acting Deputy Director of Planning with a beautiful eagle paper weight for his work and dedication in moving the credit union through the long process to receiving certification from the National Credit Union Association. Connie also presented the Board of Directors with the same gift.

The Credit Union is governed by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) and operates the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund to protect accounts at the federal insured credit union up to $250,000.

Many services will be offered; Savings, Loans- new/used car loans, personal Loans, Checking, Debit cards, and Certificates of Deposit, Money Markets, Club Accounts Home Checking and Mobile Banking. The Board and staff are very excited to offer these services to our membership. We invite our community and employees to stop in and sign up.
