Senior forward Lauren Ransom of the Oglethorpe women's basketball team earned one more postseason honor Monday, as Women's D3 News named her to their all-America honorable mention list.
It marked the first all-America honor of Ransom's career and capped an outstanding senior season for the Stormy Petrel forward.
Ransom earned D3hoops.com All-South Region first team honors, as well as Southeaster Athletic Association (SAA) Player of the Year, All-SAA first team, and SAA all-tournament accolades. She also earned SAA Player of the Week honors in each of the last two weeks of the regular season.
The Oglethorpe senior finished tied for eighth in the South region in total blocks with 46 and came in 11th in blocks per game with 1.59. She finished third in the conference in both categories. In addition, she finished second in the SAA in rebounding with 7.7 per game and third in offensive rebounding with 3.0 per contest. She came in fifth in free throws made with 85.
It marked the second consecutive season in which the Petrels placed somebody on the Women's D3 News all-America honorable mention list. Current sophomore center Savannah LeGate earned the honor as a freshman after the 2017-18 season.
Ransom served as one of 25 honorable mention selectees. The publication also named five all-America teams, consisting of a total of 25 players. Ransom served as the only SAA representative out of the 50 honorees.
The Oglethorpe forward led the Petrels to a 23-7 mark on the season and an NCAA tournament at-large spot. The Petrels defeated No. 23 Chicago 57-51 in the first round on March 1, advancing to the second round of the national tournament for the first time since 2008-09. The 23 wins also served as the most for the program since accruing 27 in 2008-09.
