Shirley Geadelmann Named Iowan of the Day

DES MOINES, IA (07/26/2017) (readMedia)-- The Iowa State Fair Blue Ribbon Foundation and Cookies Food Products are pleased to present Shirley Geadelmann of Clarence as an Iowan of the Day for the 2017 Iowa State Fair.

From supporting agriculture and the environment to supporting her community as a whole, Shirley has impacted many throughout Clarence. Raising her family on a dairy, hog and diversified crop farm instilled a passion and love for agriculture that Shirley continues to share with her community through Iowa Master Farm Homemakers, the Cedar County Farm Bureau, local 4-H clubs, and the local Dairy Herd Improvement Association. She has also shared her experiences and knowledge about dairy cows with the Lowden Historical Society.

Aside from agriculture, Shirley spends her time volunteering for her local hospital, church and library. She has played a vital role in raising funds for a new library, as well as volunteering for Camp Courageous. Another aspect of the volunteer work Shirley has donated her time to is providing assistance and care for the elderly within her community, including leading a fundraiser to raise money for a handicap- accessible van. As an Older Iowans Legislator, she has been an advocate for services to support issues elderly may face.

"Her graceful communication style has allowed her to work with a broad range of individuals and groups," says Ingrid Wensel, friend of Shirley.

Shirley's day of recognition will be on Friday, August 11 at the 2017 Iowa State Fair. She will be recognized with a presentation on the Anne & Bill Riley stage at 2:30 P.M. Along with accommodations at the Des Moines Marriott Downtown, she will receive a gift bag, grandstand tickets and use of the Iowan of the Day golf cart.
