Shreveport Resident Clair Carter Receives Prestigious Sullivan Award from Oglethorpe University

ATLANTA, GA (04/25/2012)(readMedia)-- Oglethorpe University senior Clair Carter, a religious studies major, received the university's first annual Mary Mildred Sullivan Award on April 10, 2012. Oglethorpe was selected in 2011 by the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Foundation to have the honor of presenting the highly prized Algernon Sydney Sullivan and Mary Mildred Sullivan Awards to two deserving seniors.The awards are given annually to a man and a woman whose remarkable character and dedication to service sets them apart as examples to others. Carter is an Oglethorpe University Civic Engagement Scholar and is a member of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity, Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society and the Oglethorpe University Honor Council. She has been admitted to the Emory Candler School of Theology for graduate studies and plans to become a missionary.

The Algernon Sydney Sullivan and Mary Mildred Sullivan Awards were created nearly 100 years ago to honor the service of the husband and wife for whom the awards are named. Sullivan Awards, represented by a bronze medallion, are highly prized. Previous recipients who have proven their ability to live up to the standards set by this honor range from First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt to Fred Rogers, noted star of children's television.
